I love the contrast of the yellow mums with the red mums. All of these mums in my side flower bed came back from last year. They got frozen back with the late frost we had in April but I think that might have been good for them. I know the "books" say you are suppose to pinch the tops of the mums off through July 4th...but, I didn't do that and they seem to be just fine. My theory is that plants know what they want to do and we should let them do it! Oh well, there is always next year and the anticipation of getting more geraniums!

Pansies

Just a little picture of a couple of my pots filled with pansies. The pansies are really not doing much right now -- but, at least they have a few blooms and the purple is such a pretty color. We are having warmer than normal temperatures here -- but, the weatherman says that a front will move in later today and cool things off a little -- which is wonderful in my opinion. I like the cool crisp mornings of fall and I like the fall color -- hopefully, they are both just a few short days (maybe weeks!) away.

Rudbeckia

I didn't think I would get another flush of rudbeckia -- but, I did. Toward the end of August, I cut all of this plant back pretty hard just thinking it would be next year before I got more blooms. I was really surprised to see this new flush of color. I love this plant. It really looks pretty with all of my orange/red and yellow mums this time of year.

Mushrooms?

Yuck! Our front yard is growing some pretty ugly mushrooms...anyway, I think they are mushrooms. I'm not educated regarding mushrooms -- except for the pretty ones I can buy at the grocery store! These (in my opinion) are really ugly. I guess we've been getting enough rain and humidity to get them growing. This part of the country is pretty humid and I've noticed that mushrooms will pop up in the yard, in my flowerbeds and even in my pots and window boxes. I guess the spores are there and all they need is a little humidity. Even the potting soil that I purchase for the potted plants will sprout mushrooms. This never happened in Oklahoma -- of course, it is much drier in Oklahoma than in Arkansas.
